Music

Our Grade Five Music students have been studying acronyms to remember, notes on bass and treble clef, as well as note values. Our Grade Sixs’ have been translating music; converting it into the musical alphabet. After this they study timing and start to play the music.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Erin Wyatt

This term Grades 1, 2 & 4 have been working hard on the skills of throwing and catching with Ms. Erin. Grade 2A and 1A have been lucky enough to take part in Netball clinics with SEDA students, these will take place over four weeks. Grades 1-5 will have AFL coaches running clinics during PE classes towards the end of the term. We are hoping once students have learnt these new skills, we will organise an inter school AFL competition. Keep up the hard work and remember to keep bringing your water bottles to PE.

Better Buddies:

Our foundation and Grade Six students have been working together like busy bees this term, and have enjoyed a book reading session together in the library. We extend our gratitude to M.D who helped out Nabil when he saw him in the yard. Yasmin and Maidah were also caring and went the extra effort to make their buddies very happy.

Coordinator’s Message

Oguzhan Yilmaz

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to welcome everyone back to Sirius College. I hope everyone has had a fantastic and a restful term break. It has been a swift start to an exciting and fun Term. There have been a number of events that have taken place out our school.

We were all very excited when our International Festival of Language Culture (IFLC) guest students visited our campus on Monday 8th of May. Our students had the opportunity to meet the IFLC students and have photos with them. Both group of students were quick to form bonds as they played basketball and soccer at lunch. Thank you to all SRC and teachers who helped out with the day. As you know, this year Sirius College will be celebrating 20 years and is also a proud organiser of IFLC 2017, which will be held here in Melbourne on Sunday 14th May at The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The purpose of the International Festival of Language and Culture is to celebrate diversity and promote inclusion, whilst also providing an opportunity for participating students to showcase the kaleidoscope of their language and culture with other students from around the world.

Parent teacher interviews were held in Week Three, and I extend thanks to all parents who have attended the interviews. It is important for parents to be able to understand how their child is progressing academically and behaviourally. I urge parents who were unable to attend the parent-teacher interviews to arrange alternative days to speak to teachers. These interviews are also a way to form positive communication between parents, teachers and students.

I would like to inform parents that it is compulsory for students to come to school with the Sirius College Blazer in Terms 2 & 3, as well as official school events and excursions. Students who come to school with different uniform/clothing may face the consequence of being sent home. To avoid this, please ensure your child comes to school with the correct uniform.

I would like to wish all of our students all the best in their upcoming NAPLAN Tests. As parents, please make sure your child arrives early at school. We would like all of our students to sit the NAPLAN Test in a timely manner.

If you have any concerns or queries and wish to speak to the coordinator, please make an appointment with the secretary on 9363 5300.

Kind Regards,

Oguzhan Yilmaz
